Accept Debit Card Transactions to Improve Customer Service

Merchants that choose not to accept debit card transactions put themselves in a tenuous financial position.  When a business doesn’t have a method of processing electronic payments, they miss out on the opportunity to sell to all people who walk in the door.  Not everyone carries cash and checks are becoming a thing of the past.  Debit check cards are replacing checks, because they offer all the same functionality without the possibility of errors.  If a business doesn’t deposit a check timely it can cause problems for the grantor, and result in overdraft fees or bounced check fees.  When a customer makes a payment using a debit check card, they don’t run the same risks.  The money is instantly deducted from their account, allowing them to always stay current with payments.

Businesses that accept debit card payments can earn additional payments.  Debit cards offer customers two methods of payment, credit or debit.  A debit transaction requires them to input their secret pin to access the funds.  This method is more secure than credit card payments which only require a signature.  Many card holders fail to sign the back of their cards as required by their credit issuer.  When a card is not signed it is easy for a stolen card to be used for unsanctioned purchases.  Even credit cards that request the merchant ask for identification are not as secure as debit transactions.  A pin is something that should never be given out.  Cashiers are not trained at hand writing analysis and can make mistakes when viewing a signature, but they can’t make those mistakes with a debit transaction.

When a merchant chooses to accept debit card transactions they are offering their customers one of the most secure payment methods.  Customers appreciate having the different payment options.  Some banks have fees associated with debit payments, so customers may prefer to make credit card transactions rather than debit.  When customers are provided with a variety of options they are more likely to make the choice that best suits them.  If they can do that, they a will look more favourably on your business.  Not all debit cards have credit payment options.  Only check cards have both options, and businesses should accept debit card transactions in addition to credit.

The more payment options a business can offer the better.  When a customer faces no limits on the types of payment they can use, they can juggle a variety of payment options to create a payment that works with their financial situation.  Customers can make partial payments on cash, debit and credit to minimize the interest they will pay.  When a business only offers cash payments they can miss out on many sales opportunities.  Ensure you business is always in a position to close a sale by having the maximum number of payment options available in today’s market.  Some businesses are even offing customers the option of adding the cost to their cell phone bill, for ease of payment.  Consider the variety of electronic payments available, and choose a system that works for your business.
