How Can My Mobile Business Accept Credit Card Payments

As someone who has a mobile company, you may think it will be difficult for your business to accept credit card payments. You certainly can’t carry around a large, bulky cash register or huge credit card terminal, but there are things you can do in order to get the advantages for your business. When your business can accept credit card payments you will soon see an increase in profit and more customers using your products and services. Customers love convenience and there is no better way to offer convenience than to accept credit cards.

The first thing you need to do in order for your business to accept credit card payments is to get a merchant account. A merchant account is a special bank account that will only be used for deposits from your payment processor. Your payment processor is the company that will handle the credit card payments for your business and when a credit card sale comes through, they will deposit the money into your merchant account. At that point, you can take it and use it at your discretion.

As a mobile company, you may have special consideration and you will need special equipment in order for your business to accept credit card payments.  This equipment is smaller, lighter and able to be carried around. Some of the options are mobile credit card terminals, cell phone readers and virtual terminals on your laptop.

Mobile terminals, also known as wireless terminals, are hand held machines that you can take around to different sites in order to accept payment from credit and debit cards. You can also get wireless terminals that accept and read checks as well.  They are moderately priced, about $500 on average, but can save you a lot of time and fees from your payment processor. These terminals transfer information through the wireless networks, so you don’t need to pay for a separate phone line, saving even more money.

Another way for your business to accept credit card payments while on the move is with a cell phone reader. These readers, though cheaper than wireless terminals, may have higher transaction fees. If you don’t have a ton of credit card orders and want the added convenience, a credit card reader for your cell phone may be the best choice. Small and compact, you can use these readers any place that has cell phone coverage.

If you carry a laptop, you may want to get a virtual terminal in order for your business to accept credit card payments.  These work very similarly to websites you use to purchase goods and services online. You will enter the credit card information into a secure website and send it through to the payment processor you have chosen.  You will need an internet connection for this type of payment processing to work.

As you can see, there are certainly options if you have a mobile business should you want to accept credit cards. Doing some independent research in order to find out exactly what these options can bring to your business would be an excellent next step.
