Greetings and thank you for joining me today. My name is Matt Crawford and I’m with Quantum Merchant Services and I’m going to spend the next few minutes talking about credit processing online.

What does that mean? Most merchants are acquainted with business in a face to face environment. Or works with a border environment meaning they have a standalone point of sale device, that point of sale device facilitates the acceptance of credit card. But when we talk about card processing online, it’s not quite as clear what the steps are or what we mean by that. Very simply, we’re talking about the ability for merchants to accept credit cards via their website.

Now, when we talk about card processing in an online environment, we’re talking about a card not present in the environment, meaning I as the merchant, never see you handle the credit card. When it comes time for a sale to be completed, the card holder or my customer inputs their credit card information into my website.

So to facilitate card processing online, what a merchant needs is a website with the necessary security parameters in place, they need a payment gateway. A payment gateway simply facilitates the card transaction just as a standalone point of sales device in a retail environment. The other thing a merchant may need is a shopping cart. This depends on the catalog they’re selling online. If I have a website based on a simple service, one item, chances are I don’t need a shopping cart. If I’m selling toys online and I have a whole bunch of different skews, then more than likely I will need a shopping cart if I am going to accept credit card processing online.

A funny term but all we really need is card processing online is the ability for merchants to accept payment via their website. This is obviously a growing space in the world of credit card acceptance. It’s a way for merchants to have a tiny brixen order present or perhaps no brixen order present at all to sell, to sell not just in the few blocks around their business but literally sell around the world. So as a merchant, I would really encourage you to learn more and think about card processing online how that can help your business, how that can grow your business. Sounds complicated, sounds technical, but really is quite easy.
